Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) has decided American high school and college graduates don’t have a hard enough time finding jobs in this floundering economy. According to The Denver Post, Bennet wants to give high school graduates illegally in the US a student visa if they enroll in a college science, technology, or math program. The proposed bill would also allow more foreign students with advanced science and math degrees to get green cards by creating a new green card category.
With the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting more than 9% of recent college graduates are unemployed, do we really need to be bringing in more competition? That 9% doesn’t take into account graduates who have been unable to find jobs in their field. According to the Huffington Post, only half of the college students who graduated between 2006-2010 found full-time jobs. In 2011, 1.5 million graduates grappled over the same shrinking job pool. Many educated 20-24 year olds scrape by with part-time jobs or jobs that don’t require college degrees, staggering meanwhile under crippling student loan debt. For those Americans who don’t or can’t go to college, the economic horizon looms even bleaker. Already young Americans with high school diplomas struggle with 20-23% unemployment, a number doubtless exacerbated by the influx of cheap, illegal labor.
America has always been the land of promise. The promise to this generation was “Work hard, go to college; jobs will be waiting for you bright young things.” That promise is now riddled with cracks. Sen. Bennet was a former Denver Public Schools superintendent; he should know better. His focus should be on boosting America’s students here and now, on revitalizing the economy, on renewing that promise to this generation and the generations to come. Not flooding the market with more foreign labor while econ-Phd-holding Americans ring up toilet paper at Walmart.

And we have fools like NY City Mayor, Bloomberg, along with some other progressive/liberals who are crying out to cut down on the deportation of illegal aliens, saying that they are needed as “entrepreneurs, etc.”. With over a million American students graduating each year from our universitys and colleges, I should think we can find enough high-tech and sciences majoring graduates to take care of our current shortage of those types of workers. Not to mention the millions of grad students from previous years who continue to be unemployed or underemployed.
high schools are pushing hard for students to go to collage ,when in fact what we really need is more skilled
trades I have no proplem with collage, if that is what they want. Fact is the coutry needs skilled labor(welders , plumbers,machinest, ect.) but the students are beening told why do want to do menial jobs with no future.
Speaking as some who has done MENIAL JOBS for 60yrs. and now retired, own my house, Have a good pension,happy family and most of all I CAN FIX ANYTHING that brakes , most collage grad’s could’nt find their weight out of a paperbag. There company’s screaming for the” Menial workers” and are willing to pay big money to them.

Our national sovereignty and manufacturing base has been destroyed through NAFTA and CAFTA which has resulted in totally open borders culminating in the overwhelming of our infrastructure, hospital emergency rooms and our educational institutions by the human onslaught which will be soon be at unprecedented levels which promise to bring 150 million additional immigrants to our country by 2040.
You have virtually hit the nail right on the head. We now have to reverse the idiot thinking of the last 25 years in this country that say’s without a collage education you are a second class, or even a third class citizen. Well when we see how many that are without jobs because of this thinking when the trades often offer a better life the the sheep skin. I’m not saying to forgo any education you can get , but only to remember that this country has fallen behind by sending so many job’s offshore,and putting cheap illegal labor in their place. It is time to dump NAFTA,CAFTA, and all the rest of the give away what should, and does belong the this country.
