It was a dramatic presentation at the top of the Wednesday night broadcast by Univision, the largest of our Spanish-speaking TV networks and a staunch defender of illegal immigrants. “Outraged by His Death,” read a banner headline splashed across the screen. Then, they dished out the victim’s legal guardian, a pudgy man probably in his 50s, who talked, teary-eyed, about “abuse” suffered by the young man. “He was sent to his death,” Reynaldo Cruz told Univision. “That’s inhuman.”
To listen to the broadcast, one would think that Quelino Ojeda Jimenez, a 21-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, was sent at the very least to Pol Pot’s torture chambers and we, American society, had just perpetrated another atrocity. But no, he was sent back to his hometown in Mexico, “lindo y querido” (beautiful and loved), as they like to remind us in Univision on other occasions.
So where was the “abuse?” According to published report, Mr. Ojeda came to the U.S. illegally about five years ago, leaving behind his girlfriend and their common child. Our family reunification crowd obviously did not protest this separation.
He found work at a construction site in Chicago, but in August 2010 fell about 20 feet and became paralyzed. Even though he had no health insurance, he was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois, for four months, until Dec. 22 of that year, and then sent by air ambulance to his native state of Oaxaca. The total bill, including the transportation costs, incurred by the Illinois hospital in this case topped $700,000, officials said.
But last Sunday, after staying at an Oaxaca hospital for over a year, Mr. Ojeda succumbed to a heart attack. That’s when the amnesty crowd cried bloody murder.
The main charge is that the hospital in Oaxaca was poorly equipped to treatment of patients like Mr. Ojeda and, therefore, even though he had no legal standing in the country of any kind, the United States was obligated to take care of him.
The Univision story featured a spokesman from then Mexican Consulate in Chicago, Augustin Rodriguez de la Gala, who said the consulate was “consulting with lawyers,” who were in the process of “analyzing elements” of the case. Although the diplomat shied away from the word “lawsuit,” we all know what it means, don’t we?
It has happened before. But this time, in my view, it merits attention because of the underlying philosophy behind the hubbub.
Those driving the “outrage” obviously believe that American society, because of its success and prosperity, owes a living, and apparently unlimited health care, to anyone whose native society cannot or will not provide for the basic needs of its citizens.
This philosophy is hardly new. Decades ago it was called Marxism-Leninism, later Communism. Now, in our age of political correctness, we call it “redistribution of wealth.” It was thrust to the fore quite recently by the Occupy Movement and cheered by lots of people – from the White House to the Democratic Party to the Hispanic community.
But make no mistake. We are looking into the eyes of the very same beast that made Pol Pot and Fidel Castro.

Hey I will donate a couple of sticks and some plastic flowers to throw on gravesite. i live in the Central Valley of California, land of fruits, nuts and mexicans, if Ice were to gather up all the illegals (this actually happened when I was a kid, no more though, now they come and bring their whole family) anyway if ICE were allowed to do their job and took all the illegals from this little town I live in it would be almost empty. There aren’t any other races here except illegals and about less than 5% white folks. No black Americans or Chinese Americans or any others. There is no way to get a job here in the farm fields or otherwise unleess you speak spanish. Even if other nationalities wanted to work in the fields they don’t get hired because the formans that run the crew are illegal too and won’t hire you and I know this for a fact. When ever crimes are committed here in the Valley it is usually an illegal, I very rarely here about any other races killing someone or running them over when they are drunk. I never see a Mexican woman under the age of 40 that doesn’t have at least 5 kids with her and shes pregnant with another one. When I watch shows about Hitler I am reminded of LA Raza because they want to breed us white folks out of existence by having more kids than we do and it seems to me that was one of Hitler’s plans, too. If I remember it correctly he wanted one of the countries next door to Germany to give up part of their country because German speaking people lived on this part and that is basically what is going to happen in this crazy state of California, Mexico thinks they own this state and the way things are going they will pretty soon. What does Obama do appoint some one who worked for La Raza for 20 years to be the person who helps him make decisions on domestic policy because (and I quote) she has helped middle class folks this whole time…I am sure she has but only if their surname is mexican, Chavez, Gonsalez, Lopez, whatever. I would say that we might possibly be able to do something about all of this but I believe in my heart that the only thing that would happen is us nonmexicans would end up in jail for protesting and such, or end up dead or injured by our illegal border jumpers as they protest us protesting because it seems that if you are truly a legal American the only thing the Government wants us for is to pay taxes so they can spend our money to build up the military to help other countries, pay welfare to illegals and now we got to sit and wonder if we can afford to send our kids to college while the illegals get a free ride on taxpayers dime, no not dime on our 100.00 dollar bills the will be able to get for financial aid. VOTE FOR WHOEVER RUNS AGAINST OBAMA, because after 3 years and no end to illegal immigration, no jobs (btw there is always an increase in jobs at the Holiday season because of Christmas so thats one is a big lie) and I asked anyone who thinks Obama is their man, “What the hell has he done for you (honestly)in the past three years?”

Something must be done about these 8-15 million illegals living here in our country taking American jobs and sponging off our social programs and crowding our schools. Bi lingual should be abolished. English should be spoken in this country. Shorten the process to get these illegals back to their home country – mostly Mexicans. How long will it take for the members of congress to see that illegal immigration is gutting any prosperity for the young American citizens of this country. Every congress man/woman and the administrative officers should be immediately removed from office. Every member of any illegal organization sent to jail, every Illegal alien denied any assistance, education, medical housing or anything that is derived from tax payers funds. I say when you enter any kind of business that has folks who don’t speak english don’t eat there or shop there, don’t have them mow your lawn or take care of your kids or even iron your shirts. They are here because we have let money take over our sense of responsibility to our own people, legal citizens because we have not been willing to spend a bit more money for our produce, our milk, or houses and all types of jobs illegal aliens provide services for. Lets face it the days of the illegals only working on farms is over, they work at all types of jobs and the reason they hire them is because they work for cheap and when you are paying someone cash you don’t have to match any type of payroll tax when you pay them, such as state disability, workman’s comp, unemployment, social security, etc. we only need to look in the mirror at what is happening to our country. I make an effort to buy things made in America and to shop where English only is spoken and (it is difficult and sometimes impossible to do) but to look at the produce or what ever I buy and make sure it is grown here or made here. I am proud to be an American and I want the best for my kids too. This is not totally directed at you, just some thoughts. In fact I completely agree with you, I wonder how we will stop this downfall of our country and the greed that has taken over both our government and our fellow citizens. I would rather pay more for something that was made in America than to buy from China and I would rather pay more for services performed by legal citizens than get a better deal from someone who hires illegals. I think that is the answer, hit them where it hurts in their pocket book. It really won’t matter who we elect because they are so busy playing all the sides that nothing gets done except for them to want us to pay higher taxes so they have more money to make and more to give away. I agree with you about denying illegals any type of assistance and I think if they are illegal they shouldn’t be able to own property here or run a business. My cable went out while I was watching TV a few nights ago so I started to look around to see if there were any channels on and yes there were but they were all Mex channels and I realized that there were more spanish speaking channels than there are english speaking channels. All the advertisements were the same only in spanish and as long as they illegally work or illegally sell drugs or sleazily collect welfare on their anchor kids so that they spend money for corporate America to reap the benefits nothing will change because greed knows no end. Incredible I say! That greedy construction employer should be jailed for employing an illegal immigrant instead of an American citizen. Oh I forgot we don’t enforce those laws, do we?
The really horrible thing about this story is that there have been and are thousands of other illegals who are being treated and compensated for work related accidents – and their employer’s are getting away with not having to pay one red cent. Believe it or not, many do get covered under workers compensation and obtain huge settlements. Many also get permanent resident status from the government as well.
Ironically, Sheriff Joe does what needs to be done and then gets a bad rap for doing his constitutional duty and for enforcing the laws that the bleeding heart DOJ and the Obamasiah not only refuses to do, but what they encourage these law breakers to do to escape and evade law enforcement.
As for the Mexican Consulates in the USA, there are over 50 right now and they are establishing more. The corrupt Mexican government now occupies more consulate space in the USA than every other nation on the planet, thus, their ability to influence and pressure american communities to accept illegal aliens can be seen in the political structure that coddles to them.
There has been for the last 20 years a n underground drive to get as many illegal Mexican citizens into this country. Any other country would call this an occupation but not this country. Those illegals have depleted our social coffers and taken our jobs and identities, yet relatively little is done to enforce our immigration laws. Instead we are worried that it takes too long to get official citizenship papers. Our President even encourages more and more illegals by not allowing enforcement of the immigrations laws already on the books. And now the leaders of churches are insisting and even demanding that we allow all of those illegals into our country and heart. WE NEED THEM! Says who?
When the Mexican government starts paying for all the medical/health costs for their citizens that they virtually send to the U.S. to work, then they might have a say in how their citizens are treated in this country. Til then, let them whine away. U.S. hospitals that treat illegal aliens should be suing the Mexican government for unpaid services instead of American taxpayers picking up the bill.

When we allow employers to walk away from the mess they make, we’re encouraging them permission to continue doing what they’re doing. If they really had to pay for the total costs of their illegal workers, their cheap labor would get lots more expensive, which is exactly what should happen.
I don’t believe in using cheap immigrant labor. I don’t believe in employers exploiting cheap illegal labor. I don’t believe in allowing cheap employers to exploit the hospitals or the taxpayers, either.
If I were this guy’s family, I’d feel great bitterness about his death, too. Part of my bitterness would be how the Mexican government pointed him north to take a dangerous job with no health benefits, and then protest and pretend to be concerned when it’s too late.
Oh yeah, why wasn’t this covered under workmen’s comp? If workmen’s comp doesn’t include illegal workers, it should. Let the employers pay. If you don’t, their addiction to illegal workers will only get worse.
you are so right, if the employer decides to break American law, he should be responsible. Then after he pays his medical bills, h e should be hit with a huge fine. It is just like prostitution, the female is arrested and the man walks. We need to start making people take personal responsibility for their choices. This man is here illegally, so of course he should be returned to his country of origin. Not our problem.

I concur. If an employer wants to pocket more profit by hiring illegals he should be prepared to shell out for workers comp insurance if they become injured on the job! You have to take the bad with the good.
