Another Reason Why the DREAM Act is Really Bad Policy

Student protesters tried to storm a trustees meeting and were met with force by campus police. Many of the students were pepper-sprayed during the altercation. This was the scene that transpired last night at Santa Monica College where students demonstrated their anger towards the university’s plans to offer courses at four times the current cost by shouting “No cuts, no fees, education should be free.

When public universities are forced to raise tuition, outraged students, particularly in places like California, are letting many politicians and legislators off the hook.

Faced with an oncoming ‘bubble’ over loans and seeing valuable funding resources being directed to ‘bogus’ offices and departments, students should be asking tough questions of their representatives in their state capitols.

Even with tuition costs rising dramatically, Governor Brown and the California legislature passed and signed a DREAM Act in their state back in October of 2011. The California DREAM Act now provides in-state tuition rates and makes financial resources available to students who are in the state illegally. The money to cover the difference had to come from somewhere and the Governor and legislature figured that California students could, and should, bear the brunt of it. Governor Brown and politicians who supported the DREAM Act put illegal aliens ahead of the needs of its own citizens.

But California is not the only state that puts its taxpayers on the hook for subsidizing the post-secondary education of illegal alien. A number of other states (Illinois, Texas, Maryland, Washington, Wisconsin, just to name a few) allow illegal aliens access to in-state tuition rates, and a number of other states are considering this legislation. California, due to its large illegal alien population and its massive budget deficit (coincidence anyone?), is the first state to manifest the inevitable ill effects of this policy. The remainder of the states should pay particular close attention to what is happening in California.

Any student (or taxpayer for that matter) protesting out of control tuition rates in California and elsewhere should remember that as they write checks to their favorite institution of higher learning, but especially keep it in mind next time they enter the ballot box.

Wrong all so wrong. Discriminating ourselves by showing racism to illegal immigrants. Land of the free and justice for all. Some land and justice this country is when so many of our U.S. citizens are discriminating and bringing shame to ourselves. What’s next?
Slavery was abolish after the civil war when you fought for it. Now there was segregation and between black and white.
Now on days there is no such thing as slavery nor segregation within our country and learned how to accept.
You people need you learn how to accept and stop bring shame and discrimination to our country as it is open to all who seeks freedom and peace. They spend our money to their relatives back in their country therefore they will be able to live as some countries are corrupted.
Do you complain when we help supply the Germans after the war? Supplying North Korea with supplies?
Japan after the atomic bomb? Helping those in need in Africa?
That is just as similar as it is immigrants coming into OUR country and getting THEIR OWN JOBS and helping themselves and family.
They are not stealing your jobs. They are just working much harder than you are in trying to receive a job and have better skills.
No one is no better than one another as we are all equal depending on what you do with your life.
You want to become some sort of high professional Business owner? Then go to college and work your butt off for it. You want work in some sort of factory or low wage jobs? Then get off your lazy butt and go find the job and stop complaining how immigrants can do more than you could.
You want the money so bad? Then go work full time and get a better job.
They are just working as hard as we are.
Do not complain when even you yourself have eaten ethnic food, supplies, furniture, fruits, and all other stuff.
Read the label of anything you own and 100% sure many are from foreign countries.
They help support us as we help them in return.
You want your money so bad? Then go work for it you lazy bums.
You want jobs and better jobs? Then go work for it as well.
Unfortunately immigrants are better at finding jobs because they do it for survivability for their family as they are new to the country while you people just sit and lay that your an American and just get a job like it is nothing because you are White.
Have you not notice High level colleges like Harvard or Yale does not only have just WHITE people but many of different backgrounds. You think your better and more skilled than them? If so then I feel sorry if you did not go to such top college as the head of the school is WHITE.
You just have to face the truth that some people are better than you and some aren’t.
In this world no one is better than one another.

By the way. If the Dream Act were to pass, this may help the government and increase of income revenues by millions of dollars according to how much immigrants whose willing to come into the U.S. and increase economic benefits as well.

Some of you should definitely get some information into your brains.

    Inform yourselves.

Find out what the DREAM Act is and how it will help YOU too.

I know the DREAM ACT allows illegal immigrants to have in-state tuition rates. I also know that as a U.S. Citizen who isn’t from California, I am not eligible for in-state tuitio0n rates. Why should illegal immigrants get benefits in the United States that U.S. Citizens don’t receive? The info I have on the DREAM ACT came from the original legislation authors in the U.S. Senate, Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Barrack Obama.

    Jim from WA state on

As a 12 year USAF vet and retired math teacher, I have been after legislators, fed and state, for over 15 years on the issue of legal and illegal immigration and all the billions of dollars it is costing taxpayers. It is just like talking to the wall. I don’t have enough room here to list their hundreds of excuses but they are not paying attention to printed and verified facts. My state, WA, is a blue state like CA and trying to reason with our liberal westsiders (Seattle) is like going around and around in circles.

The Dream Act means broken dreams for Americans. Recently my tuition reimbursement was revoked due to lack of funds in our state budget. I can no longer persue my master’s degree as a result- a degree I was pursuing in order to become a beneficial leader for our agency’s, state’s, and nation’s future. That was my dream, but it is no longer. It is broken. My funding has been cut, and I cannot afford to continue on my own with a public servant salary. I have lost my dream, and this nation has lost a future leader. Still, last year hundreds of dollars of my tuition went towards paying for Illegal immigrants to go to school (not to mention the $1000 per household taken out in taxes to pay for illegal immigration). I know this because the Financial Services department is required to notify all students of this.
And you know what really adds salt to my wounds? I paid out-of-state tuition for four years while here in Texas.
There is something intensely wrong with this flawed system of secondary education.

IF YOU ARE WHITE IN THIS COUNTRY AND WANT ANYKIND OF DEGREE YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE YOUR WHITE SKIN HAS BECOME A PROBLEM IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE YOU VOTE INTO OFFICE.

      • avatar

Well we know who’s racist here.

I don’t know how having a person of color in office affects YOU or any person with WHITE skin. How does it keep you from getting a degree?

Your comments are all right-on, but folks we’re preaching to the choir. Start lobbying your elected officials. If they know that they’re risking losing re-election, they may start coming to their senses. To Governor Brown and the California Assembly, we are just the beasts of burden supporting illegal aliens. Until we start flexing our voter muscle, California politicians will continue to reward illegal aliens with our precious tax dollars.

You are so right Bambi, we must become as vocal as the brazen Illegals. We need to be organized, start attending town hall meetings, ring the phone off the hooks of our legislatures and vote, vote, vote these people OUT of office if they don’t listen to us.

      A legal immigrant on

Hey Bambi, Yeah let’s send em all home and then you can go out into the fields and pick and plant your own food, for a peanut wage and no benefits. Next time you throw a dinner party for your friends think of where the food came from and that you didn’t have to dirty your lily white hands to get it. No you just had to get in your car and go into the air conditioned supermarket to buy it nice and cheap off immigrants backs. You want the cheap products and the willing labor to do the shmuck jobs that are beneath you to do and then you begrudge those that have worked their *** off so you can live in your fancy house. A lot of businesses in this country would not be able to operate without the cheap labor immigrants provide. Wake up lady and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

I feel for your California, but not very much. Californians, as New Yorkers went to the polls and time after time vote in these liberal idiots! How much more will it take for you to open your eyes and see liberalism does not work! You need to take care of your own people your own citizens 1st.

ANY ONE GIVE YOU A BREAK, NO……..AFTER ALL WE PUT OUT MILLIONS TO SOCIAL SERVICE TO 11. MIL ”ILLEGAS”……..THEY TAKE YOUR JOBS, & SEND BILLIONS BACK TO THEIR FAMILIES? So, after these illegal immigrants go to college in California and graduate with their degrees, what are they going to do? Get a job? It’s currently illegal to hire them in the US. Do they then go home and work in their home countries at our expense?
This may be just another long term plan to force amnesty.

  10. avatar

Out of country students pay a higher tuition than those in state students. I see no rational for the Dream Act. Children born here or brought in by illegal parent (s) should pay for their education. It is no fault of the children their parents brought them here, however their education should not be free.

    • avatar

Children of illegals should not be citizens and their parents should be deported immediately. These kids should be going to school in Mexico! US citizens shhoild not be made to support these criminals.

      Tired Of Illegal Immigrants on

      Mary:
Children brought here (to the USA) by their parents are illegal immigrants! These illegal immigrants should be deported but the sheeple keep electing the idiots to “represent” them. Our current dictator (Obama) has decided that illegal immigrants should be rewarded with American citizenship; has instructed US immigration to not deport illegal immigrants without a serious criminal background. According to The Stein Report, the dictator also instructed US immigration officials to “halt the deportation of certain illegal immigrants by granting them ‘unlawful presence waivers””… Americans need to react to each of these criminal acts of backdoor amnesty. We The People do not support illegal immigration; instead we support attrition thru enforcement!!!

You are right and I see them angry up there, but they should be angry at Brown and Sacramento legislation for the reckless use of our tax money and the burden they pass to the students with higher tuition’s. Brown was here in San Diego yesterday, taking among other things, his proposal to raise our taxes to help the schools, awhile he help illegal students pay for their education with our tax money.
