ICE Deportation Orders Down 25% From Last Year
“The latest available data from the Immigration Courts show that during November 2012 the government reported 14,926 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) filings seeking deportation orders. According to the case-by-case information analyzed by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), filings are down 5.7 percent compared to filings in the previous month,” says the TRAC project at Syracuse.
“These latest figures show that the slide in ICE filings that has been taking place since 2009 continued during November 2012.”
Immigration Flow Picks Up, Says Census
“The pace of the nation’s population growth inched higher this year for the first time since 2006, boosted by a larger number of immigrants amid improving U.S. prospects,” the LA Times reports.
“In its annual state population estimates, the Census Bureau said Thursday that there were 313.9 million people in the United States on July 1. That is up 2.3 million from a year earlier, a growth rate of 0.75%.”
Georgia Complaint Over State Verification to Get Hearing
“A state panel aimed at cracking down on government agencies that don’t comply with Georgia’s immigration laws is preparing to schedule its first hearing on a complaint. At issue is a complaint the Immigration Enforcement Review Board received this year from D.A. King, president of the Dustin Inman Society, which advocates for enforcement of U.S. immigration and employment laws,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
“King has accused the state Department of Community Affairs of not collecting information from local governments confirming whether they are authorized to use the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program for certain public benefits. That online program helps determine the immigration status of people so only those entitled to those benefits receive them.”
