“Under the pretense of immigration reform, the high-tech industry is using S. 744 to push for unlimited numbers of workers, resulting in more unemployment and lower wages for all of America’s workers – regardless of their origin. This is not irrational behavior by the companies. If they get 10 quality applicants per job, great! They can pick and choose the perfect fit to their needs. It’s not their problem if the other nine end up underemployed or on welfare or even hating America because they were told we were the land of opportunity,” says professor Mark Thies in an op-ed.
“The bill is lathered up with giveaways such that 33 million permanent work permits will be given out to non-citizens over the next decade. That’s like giving all of Canada permission to move here and get a job over the next 10 years. It’s far more than the 24 million immigrants that came through Ellis Island during its entire 1890-1950 period.”
Ann Coulter: GOP Logic on Amnesty Makes No Sense

McCain Wrong, Criminals Will Get Amnesty
“This morning on the Senate floor, Gang of Eight member Senator John McCain declared that the Gang’s immigration bill needed to pass in order to remove a ‘very huge stain on the conscience of the United States of America.’ He also made the following statement about the bill’s path to citizenship: ‘Anyone who has committed crimes in this country is going to be deported.’ That’s not what the Gang of Eight bill says (see Section 2101). The bill bars criminals from gaining legalization only when the individual has committed ‘3 or more misdemeanors . . . if the alien was convicted on different dates for each of the 3 offenses,'” notes Fred Bauer at National Review.
Rep. Labrador Says Comprehensive Bill Counterproductive
“Rep. Raul Labrador has decided to take a piecemeal approach to immigration reform and will work with House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., to author legislation, the Idaho Republican told National Journal on Wednesday,” National Journal says.
“Labrador, who backed out of bipartisan talks in the House last week because of differences over health care for illegal immigrants, said he hopes to introduce some legislation by next week. He will ultimately write ‘a couple bills’ that would complement pieces Goodlatte has already introduced on interior enforcement, high-skilled workers, E-verify, and agricultural guest workers.”
