Napolitano To Resign in September

“Janet Napolitano is resigning as head of the Homeland Security Department and seeking a post as president of the University of California, the long-time Obama confidant announced Friday. Officials told Fox News that Napolitano does not plan to leave her post until September. But she announced the move on Friday after it began to break in the media, revealing that she has been nominated to lead the California university system,” Fox News reported.

The High Cost of Amnesty – $12,000 Per Immigrant

“A fight has erupted over the costs of granting amnesty to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in America, with the White House claiming the cash benefits to the Treasury are huge and will slash the deficit, and critics showing it will cost Americans more and increase the deficit,” the Washington Examiner says.

“Critics are pushing back hard, led by the Heritage Foundation. Among the key points: reform supporters suggest that immigrants will suddenly be paying taxes when they become legal, but that’s already happening.”

“Heritage is highlighting a chart that details the taxes paid and government services received by all Americans, including illegal immigrants. It shows that after amnesty, immigrants will cost governments $12,433 in benefits over the taxes they pay per year. Over a lifetime of an adult illegal granted amnesty, the difference between benefits received and taxes paid would be a cost to taxpayers of $592,000.”

House GOP Concerned Over Possible Conference With Senate

“House speaker John Boehner continues to insist that he won’t allow a vote on an immigration-reform bill that doesn’t have the support of a majority of the House GOP caucus. He recently extended that pledge to include any bill that might result from a conference committee – an official, bicameral negotiation that typically occurs when each chamber has passed legislation on the same issue. But opponents of the Senate-passed Gang of Eight bill are still skeptical,” says Andrew Stiles at National Review.

“We aren’t concerned about what passes the House, the concern is what passes out of conference,” a conservative GOP aide tells National Review Online. “Once you to go to conference, you lose control of the situation.”
