Calif. Gov. Brown to Decide on Bill Protecting Illegal Alien Criminals

“State lawmakers Tuesday sent Gov. Jerry Brown a tall stack of proposed laws, including controversial measures to expand immigrant rights, impose sweeping controls on gun owners and reduce penalties for possession of hard drugs. The bills would limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, ban the use of lead bullets by hunters and allow prosecutors to file misdemeanor charges rather than felonies for simple possession of heroin and cocaine,” the LA Times writes. The Illegal Alien Lobby is Getting Tax Money to Sign People Up for Obamacare

“The Chicago Lampoon has stumbled on a little-known State of Illinois grant notice which reveals that Chicago’s chief lobby group for illegal aliens, The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and a number of ancillary immigrant lobby groups are getting millions of dollars in grants to enroll immigrants in the Obamacare socialized medicine scheme,” says the Chicago Lampoon blog.

“The feds are handing out big wads of your tax cash to hire “In-person counselors” and “Navigators” at $13 an hour to run around and sign up people for the Obamacare program. They’ve designated a gaggle of “Community Action Agencies” to hire the counselors and navigators.”

States Tackle Immigration Bills

“The drive to reform the nation’s immigration laws may be stalled in Congress, but the national debate it has inspired is at least partly responsible for a spike in new laws passed in state legislatures around the country. Through the end of June, 43 states and the District of Columbia had passed a total of 377 laws and resolutions related to immigration, according to a report to be issued Wednesday by the National Conference of State Legislators’ Immigration Policy Project. That’s an 83 percent increase from the first half of 2012,” the Washington Post reports.

Illegal Aliens From India Surge Across Arizona Border

“On a recent Friday night in Phoenix, an unmarked white Department of Homeland Security bus pulls up to a curb near the Greyhound bus station. The door swings open and 15 young men and women from India step off. In the scorching summer heat, they climb into waiting cars and taxis, cramming as many passengers inside as possible before they are driven off into the night,” the Arizona Republic writes.

“The Indians are part of a mysterious surge in migrants from the South Asian country showing up at the Arizona border without legal visas and then requesting asylum to remain permanently in the U.S. out of fear they may be persecuted if returned to their homeland.”

Previously Deported Belgian Arrested After Swimming to Detroit

“A Belgian man is behind bars after telling an alleged bogus tale about how he and his belongings ended up in the Detroit River. He pretended to be a crime victim, authorities said, when he was really an unlawful immigrant trying to sneak into the country. According to a criminal complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court, U.S. border agents spotted the man around 2 a.m. Thursday. He was hanging over the water from a boardwalk near Atwater Street,” the Detroit Free Press says .

“The agents approached Smolders and arrested him on charges of being an illegal immigrant in the U.S. A search of his belongings also turned up a Belgian passport with a Canadian arrival stamp dated Wednesday.”

Former DHS Secretary Chertoff Says Executive Amnesty

“Former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff believes a unilateral move by the White House would further doom the chances of Congress embracing sweeping reform legislation. Chertoff, who advocated for sweeping changes to immigration law under President George W. Bush, said Obama’s election-year decision in 2012 to defer deportations for immigrants brought to the country illegally as children has caused great skepticism among reform opponents,” the Washington Post writes.

“‘I understand when the decision was made not to deport the so-called ‘Dreamers’ it was seen as very humane. But for people skeptical and distrusting, that vindicated their skepticism,’ Chertoff said during an immigration forum in Raleigh, N.C., co-sponsored by a pro-reform group called Bibles, Badges and Business, the North Carolina Farm Bureau and Bipartisan Policy Center.”
