McCain Says Amnesty May Pass After 2014 Primaries

“Although 2014 is an election year, [Sen.] McCain said it’s possible that some lawmakers could be more supportive of the legislation, if they clear primary challenges in the spring and early summer,” says Hotair.com.

“‘I think conventional wisdom is that time is not on our side,’ McCain told reporters. ‘But there are a number of members of Congress who have primaries and when those primaries are done, they may be more inclined to address the issue of comprehensive immigration reform.'”

House Could Vote on Amnesty This Year, Says Congressman

“Rep. Jeff Denham, California Republican, said Thursday that the immigration reform bill will get support from more Republicans and that it’s realistic the House will vote before the end of the year. ‘While there are three Republicans on it now, I think there will be many more to come,’ he said on MSNBC,” the Washington Times reports.

Reid Blocks Measure to Keep Tax Credits from Illegal Aliens

“U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, left, wants to end the practice of giving illegal immigrants tax credits for kids, but U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., won’t let the House-approved measure H.R. 556 through the Senate,” notes Mike Shedlock at Townhall.com.

“One would hope that with budget deficits wildly out of control and with interest on the nation’s debt piling up even with historic low interest rates, that common sense measures to save $24 billion would get easy passage. But such hopes are dashed on the hard rocks of partisan politics. What one party wants, the other doesn’t. Moreover, I am quite sure enough Democrats would vote for this bill if they were allowed. But they aren’t. Reid has blocked the measure.”
