Neera Tanden, the President of the Center for American Progress (CAP) writes, “As the proud daughter of Indian immigrants, I know that the true greatness of America lies in our willingness to embrace people from every walk of life—no matter where they come from or what they look like and regardless of the religious beliefs they hold.”
Most Americans would, undoubtedly, agree with that sentiment. But, that sentiment is superficial because it does not address the issues of how many are streaming into the country, the ability of local communities to productively harness the talents of the newcomers, the impact of the newcomers on the nation’s environmental sustainability, and the screening necessary to assure that the newcomers represent no threat to our people.
Readers of this blog are already likely to see through the distraction of the CAP treacle. But it is not enough to simply recognize the superficiality of the mass immigration lobby’s slogans. The public must also begin to challenge the bromides of the open-border activists and translate that greater awareness into convincing Congress to make the needed changes to the nation’s immigration law.
