April Fool! Team Biden Tackles Climate Change With Mass Immigration

While President Joe Biden talks up environmental initiatives to address global climate change, his feckless immigration policies invite ruinous ecological impacts in the U.S. Two congressmen are calling attention to the disconnect.

“The environmental consequences of illegal immigration are well documented. As the number of illegal migrants crossing the border increases, greater damages to federal lands are anticipated,” Reps. Bruce Westerman, R-Ark., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., wrote to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

That’s not even the half of it.

Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., predicted last week that Democratic amnesty proposals would add 100 million citizens within 10 to 20 years, boosting the current U.S. population by nearly 30 percent. Just since January, 30,000 illegal aliens have been released into the country, with more on the way.

The link between immigration – the leading driver of U.S. population growth — and environmental degradation is undeniable. In 2018, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimated that legal and illegal immigrants to the U.S. accounted for 637 million tons of carbon dioxide pollution annually, roughly 12 percent of the total.

“Of course, this does not make immigrants responsible for global warming, nor does it mean that native-born Americans shouldn’t do more to reduce their own footprints,” CIS stated. “However, it is dishonest to discuss large-scale immigration without considering the impact that immigration has on our climate.”

In addition to greenhouse gases and the piles of southwest desert trash observed by Reps. Gosar and Westerman, immigration-driven population growth exacerbates other environmental concerns such as water shortages, urban crowding, suburban sprawl and loss of biodiversity nationwide. Texas, home to some 2 million illegal aliens, suffered a near collapse of its electric grid during icy storms this winter. The continued influx of border crossers will put more stress on similarly strained systems.

With the Left peddling the dubious notion of “climate migrants” and promoting “comprehensive immigration reform” (amnesty), how about an environmental impact study to comprehensively document the costs and damages caused by mass immigration in this country?

As Gosar and Westerman point out: “We cannot ignore the environmental impact of illegal migrants when devising immigration enforcement policy.”
