Biden Administration Released 50,000 Illegal Aliens Without Court Dates

Axios reported that due to the Biden administration’s policies, U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) released nearly 50,000 illegal aliens into the U.S. without notices to appear in court. Border Patrol informed the released illegal aliens to appear at a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office, but only 13 percent of them bothered to show up.

This report reinforces the stunning reality that our country’s Southwest border is effectively open to anyone who can get there. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data shows that through just nine months of the 2021 fiscal year, agents already apprehended over 1.1 million illegal aliens. This is the highest such total in 20 years. It also represents a demographic change in the makeup of individuals coming to the border. The last border crisis in 2019 comprised mostly of family units. Today, the overwhelming majority – 69.5 percent – are single adults.

This is happening solely because of the Biden administration’s decision to eviscerate any and all semblance of immigration enforcement at the border. Most of these decisions were simply reactions to the Trump administration’s crackdown at the border following the 2019 crisis. The Biden administration ended the Migrant Protection Protocols – commonly known as the Remain in Mexico policy – and removed the United States from safe-third-country asylum agreements with Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. President Biden also signed spending bills that cut significant funding from both ICE and CBP, preventing them from effectively performing their congressionally authorized roles.

Political appointees within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also brought back the Obama-era practice of catch-and-release, where agents simply release illegal aliens into the interior with a notice to appear in court. In the case of the Biden administration, however, they were simply told to report to an ICE office.

Naturally, news of this reached beyond our shores, and hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens have made the dangerous and life-threatening journey to our southern border. Without major changes to our immigration policies, the current surge in people attempting to illegally cross the border will only grow.
