Losing the Middle: Independents Give President Biden Failing Marks on Immigration

Another day, another poll showing that Americans strongly disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the border crisis. This latest survey, released August 4 from the Morning Consult/Politico, gives Biden his lowest approval numbers yet from independent voters. Of those unaffiliated voters canvassed, only 44 percent approved of the president’s overall performance so far in office, with 49 percent disapproving.

The Biden administration was unable to gain majority support on any issue polled, but the numbers were especially dismal regarding immigration thanks to the self-created and ever-growing crisis raging at the southern border. Overall, 54 percent of voters disapproved of the administration’s handling of the immigration issue, with only a meager 30 percent approving.

In addition, this poll was conducted almost entirely before news broke that more than 210,000 individuals were likely apprehended along the southern border in July – a 21st century record. President Biden’s polling numbers on the immigration issue continue to drop as the crisis rages to record levels and – unless moderate voters appreciate record border apprehensions – this latest news does not signal any relief.

However, instead of re-instating effective Trump-era programs, such as the Migrant Protection Protocols, or canceling migrant-attracting policies like “catch and release,” the administration continues to promote an agenda that promises to worsen the crisis. Furthermore, help shouldn’t be expected from Congress anytime soon, as Democrats continue their plans to attach an amnesty for 10 million or more illegal aliens onto a $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation proposal.

Americans are making their disapproval known. However, the Biden administration, along with Democrats in Congress, don’t seem to care. They continue to ignore the pressing needs of their constituents and are instead catering to the mass-migration lobby’s ever-growing wish list.
