Since taking office nine months ago, the Biden administration has halted construction of the border wall; resumed catch-and-release of most people encountered entering the U.S. illegally; canceled the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy; abolished just about all of ICE’s immigration enforcement functions; attempted (unsuccessfully) to sneak the largest illegal alien amnesty in history into a budget reconciliation bill; and that’s just the short list.
And yet, despite all that, people are just not happy. We’re not talking about the two-thirds of Americans who disapprove of the president’s handling of immigration policy – his administration doesn’t particularly care what they think. It’s the open-borders, mass immigration and amnesty folks that are fuming at the Biden administration – so much so, that activists, whom Politico reports, “have been having regular calls with Biden officials for the entire year,” staged a virtual walk-out on a Zoom meeting with top White House officials on Saturday.
“I cannot stand one more meeting of them pretending,” Ariana Saludares, of the New Mexico-based Colores United, told Politico. “They give us accolades on the outside, but on the inside, we’re having to take out the metaphoric knives from our back.” She and the other activists demanded time at the beginning of Saturday’s meeting to read a statement in which they accused the Biden-Harris administration of “playing politics with human lives,” and complaining that they can no longer “come into these conversations in good conscience.”
Their peevish scolding of the President of the United States and his staff was met with, you guessed it, an apology from what Politico described as “a White House official.” The unnamed official thanked them for their tongue-lashing. “We are incredibly thankful and appreciative of the work immigration advocates and organizations do around the clock to improve our immigration system.”
Aside from Kamala Harris’ failure to overrule (thus far) the Senate Parliamentarian’s ruling that a budget reconciliation bill is not an appropriate vehicle to enact a massive illegal alien amnesty, the activists are hopping mad about what they perceive as other betrayals by the White House. They expressed outrage that the administration is still half-heartedly employing Title 42 to bar some illegal border-crossers from entering the country because, in their view, preventing the spread of COVID should never take precedence over welcoming anybody and everybody who shows up.
They also expressed their consternation about the fact that the White House has reluctantly agreed to comply with a Supreme Court decision ordering them to reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols (aka, Remain in Mexico). The fact that the administration is moving at a snail’s pace to get it done does not seem to be placating them.
If nothing else, Saturday’s meeting proved the old adage, “There’s just no pleasing some people” – especially not self-righteous, self-entitled ideologues.
