Policymakers in Maine have gone out of their way to make their state a magnet for illegal immigration. Along with that comes the challenge of trying to educate kids who speak 57 different languages. While educational resources have been shifted to meet the needs of newcomers, overall educational attainment in Maine has declined. Mass immigration is not the only reason Maine kids are falling behind, but it certainly makes remedying the problem more difficult.
