{"id":1158,"date":"2012-03-05T18:53:38","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T22:53:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=1158"},"modified":"2017-08-10T13:22:30","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T17:22:30","slug":"you-don%e2%80%99t-need-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2012\/03\/05\/you-don%e2%80%99t-need-to-know\/","title":{"rendered":"You Don\u2019t Need to Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Full disclosure: FAIR filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request last summer seeking information about how the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairus.org\/publications\/president-obama-s-record-of-dismantling-immigration-enforcement\"> Obama administration<\/a> plans to carry out its backdoor amnesty plan and evidence to back up the contention that they cannot enforce vast sections of our immigration law and other matters pertinent to their handling of U.S. immigration policy.<\/p>\n<p>It took them about four months to get back to us. And when they finally did, it came in the form of a nicely worded letter that said, \u201cWe\u2019re not telling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An article in Monday\u2019s edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0312\/73606.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Politico<\/em><\/a>, \u201cObama\u2019s muddy transparency record,\u201d is both comforting and troubling. It\u2019s comforting to know that we\u2019re not alone. The Obama administration is in no hurry to provide information to anyone who disagrees with their policies. And, it\u2019s troubling to know that we\u2019re not alone. It doesn\u2019t particularly matter what the issue is. If you disagree with their policies and want information the answer is the same for everyone: We\u2019re not telling.<\/p>\n<p>As Katherine Meyer, a Washington attorney who has been filing FOIA requests since 1978, puts it this way: \u201cObama is the sixth administration that\u2019s been in office since I\u2019ve been doing Freedom of Information Act work\u2026 It\u2019s kind of shocking to me to say this, but of the six, this administration is the worst on FOIA issues. The worst. There\u2019s just no question about it.
