{"id":12649,"date":"2016-04-27T18:06:22","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T22:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=12649"},"modified":"2018-12-28T13:30:38","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T18:30:38","slug":"take-action-to-stop-sanctuary-city-policies-in-louisiana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2016\/04\/27\/take-action-to-stop-sanctuary-city-policies-in-louisiana\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Action to Stop Sanctuary City Policies in Louisiana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 21, the Louisiana House Committee on Judiciary passed two critical measures last week to combat sanctuary policies in the state,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=996951\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill (HB) 1148<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=996870\" target=\"_blank\">HB 453<\/a>. Sanctuary policies are ordinances, resolutions, executive actions or any initiatives that prohibit local officials from inquiring, acting on, or reporting an individual&#8217;s immigration status\u2014even when there is reasonable suspicion that an individual is in the country illegally.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>HB 1148<\/strong>\u00a0targets sanctuary policies by penalizing state or local governments or offices that adopt sanctuary policies by prohibiting them from borrowing any money from the state for new infrastructure projects and by prohibiting any state funding to be spent in the implementation or enforcement of any sanctuary policy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HB 453<\/strong>\u00a0allows victims of crimes committed by criminal aliens released by sanctuary cities to sue the city or parish with such policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Both bills must now be voted on by the full House of Representatives. Call your Representatives today and tell them to support HB 1148 and HB 453! The House is likely to schedule the vote for early next week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tell these elected officials that cooperating with federal immigration authorities and complying with immigration detainers is smart public policy. The benefits of legislation aimed at increasing cooperation with federal immigration officials include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Furthering the public safety and welfare of Louisiana residents and visitors;<\/li>\n<li>Fighting illegal immigration by eliminating the attraction for illegal aliens to come to Louisiana;<\/li>\n<li>Taking away competition for scarce jobs; and<\/li>\n<li>Providing ICE with critical assistance to accomplish its mission to identify and remove criminal aliens who are already in state or local custody.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Call your Representatives today!
