{"id":12679,"date":"2016-05-06T10:59:07","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T14:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=12679"},"modified":"2018-12-28T13:29:11","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T18:29:11","slug":"anti-sanctuary-measures-advance-to-the-la-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2016\/05\/06\/anti-sanctuary-measures-advance-to-the-la-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Sanctuary Measures Advance to the LA Senate!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On May 4, the Louisiana House of Representatives <b>overwhelmingl<i>y <\/i><\/b>passed two critical measures, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1000711\">HB 1148<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.la.gov\/legis\/ViewDocument.aspx?d=1000737\">HB 453<\/a>, to combat dangerous sanctuary policies in the state!<\/p>\n<p>Sanctuary policies are ordinances, resolutions, executive actions or initiatives that prohibit law enforcement from inquiring, acting on, or reporting an individual\u2019s immigration status, or that otherwise impede their ability to cooperate with federal immigration officials.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>HB 1148<\/b> prohibits state or local governments with\u00a0 sanctuary policies from borrowing any money from the state for new \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 infrastructure projects, and bans state funding from being spent on the\u00a0 implementation or enforcement of sanctuary policies.<\/li>\n<li><b>HB 453<\/b> allows victims of crimes committed by illegal\u00a0aliens released by sanctuary cities to sue the city or parish with such \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Both bills are currently waiting to be scheduled in the Senate. Call your Senator today and tell him or her that you support the House\u2019s decision to pass critical anti-sanctuary legislation! The Senate may bring HB 1148 and HB 453 up for a vote as soon as next week! <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Tell these elected officials that cooperating with federal immigration authorities and complying with immigration detainers is smart public policy.
