{"id":14776,"date":"2017-08-10T11:40:28","date_gmt":"2017-08-10T15:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=14776"},"modified":"2018-12-28T12:41:19","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T17:41:19","slug":"acting-ice-director-president-trump-taken-handcuffs-off-law-enforcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2017\/08\/10\/acting-ice-director-president-trump-taken-handcuffs-off-law-enforcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Acting ICE Director: President Trump has &#8220;Taken the Handcuffs Off Law Enforcement.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an interview with the <em>Washington Examiner, <\/em>Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/ice-chief-80-jump-in-illegal-targets-readies-national-sanctuary-crackdown\/article\/2629001\">revealed<\/a> that illegal border crossings have dropped 70 percent, which he claims is \u201ca historic low.\u201d He also announced that arrests of immigration violators inside the country increased by 40 percent. &#8220;[Trump has] taken the handcuffs off of law enforcement,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Less than a month after President Trump\u2019s election, before he even took office yet, many illegal aliens claimed they no longer <a href=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/2016\/11\/15\/could-donald-trumps-immigration-policies-start-working-before-he-takes-office\/\">\u201cfelt safe\u201d<\/a> living in the United States. In addition, his messaging and campaign promises is making prospective illegal aliens think twice about entering the country. By April 2017, less than three months into his administration, unlawful border crossing arrests had already <a href=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/2017\/04\/07\/border-crossing-arrests-reach-lowest-point-since-2000\/\">dropped<\/a> to their lowest point since 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Illegal aliens already residing in the country are taking Trump at his word as well. According to the Department of Justice, there were 57,069 \u201cTotal Orders of Removal and Voluntary Departures\u201d from February to July. \u00a0These orders are when an illegal alien is allowed the option to voluntarily leave the country by a certain date to avoid court-ordered removal. These types of departures increased more than 30 percent compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>These are all positive steps toward restoring law and order to the immigration process in America. And, so far, the only real change has been to enforce existing law. By simply enforcing the law, many of the incentives to unlawfully immigrate into the United States disappear.<\/p>\n<p>The American public rewarded Donald Trump\u2019s messaging on immigration by electing him as their president.
