In what promises to be the biggest immigration enforcement operation of the Trump presidency, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents aim to detain and deport more than 1,500 illegal aliens in California.

ICE officers will be flown into the newly declared “sanctuary state” to crack down on illegally employed migrants, sources say.

Operational details are being kept under wraps, understandably, but acting ICE Director Thomas Homan urged Californians to “hold on tight.”

“(If state lawmakers) don’t want to protect their communities, then ICE will,” Homan vowed.

California lawmakers didn’t take Homan’s warning well. Several legislators want Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to intervene.

“The statements are a direct threat to Californians (and) will instill fear in our communities,” the lawmakers wrote, apparently in all seriousness. “Acting Director Homan’s attack on sanctuary cities is not only an infringement of state rights but a direct assault on communities of color.”

Meantime, communities of every color are besieged by criminal aliens.

In a violent attack that’s become sickeningly familiar, a Mexican national (deported seven times) allegedly stabbed a fellow diner in the neck at a Santa Rosa restaurant last month. After the acquittal of a five-time deportee in the fatal shooting of Kate Steinle in San Francisco, conviction is not assured.

Equally heinous is the case of a twice-deported Mexican national charged with killing two Northern California sheriff’s deputies. Far from showing remorse, the grinning defendant taunted the court: “I wish I had killed more of the mother—–s.”

Amid California’s state-sanctioned lawlessness and miscarriages of justice, ICE’s workplace sweeps should be just an opening foray onto the Golden State’s tarnished and treacherous streets, and those of other avowed sanctuary
