{"id":16697,"date":"2018-03-21T14:27:38","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T18:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=16697"},"modified":"2018-12-28T10:43:34","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T15:43:34","slug":"ice-dodging-aliens-wreak-new-havoc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2018\/03\/21\/ice-dodging-aliens-wreak-new-havoc\/","title":{"rendered":"ICE-Dodging Aliens Wreak New Havoc"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After dodging a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-ln-norcal-immigration-arrests-20180227-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">federal immigration sweep in Northern California<\/span><\/a>, three illegal aliens from Mexico have been arrested and charged with committing additional crimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s3\">The acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement <\/span><span class=\"s1\">blamed the Golden State\u2019s sanctuary laws and <a href=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/2018\/02\/26\/oakland-mayor-shivers-ice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf\u2019s warning<\/span><\/a> that ICE officers were about to conduct a series of raids in the Bay Area late last month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">ICE chief Thomas Homan said Tuesday that three Mexican nationals in this country illegally were among the aliens targeted by the roundup. Just days after evading capture in the raid, Homan said the men went on to commit new criminal offenses. Without identifying them by name, Homan reported:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li6\"><span class=\"s5\">One was <\/span><span class=\"s1\">arrested for robbery and gun crimes. He had been released back into the community for a prior offense despite an ICE detainer request in November.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li6\"><span class=\"s1\">Another was busted for drunken driving, despite having been deported three times and prior convictions for false imprisonment, DUI and battery of a spouse.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li6\"><span class=\"s1\">A third man was arrested for corporal injury of a spouse. He had been deported twice and criminal convictions including drug possession, hit-and-run, DUIs, possessions of narcotics equipment and a parole violation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Homan didn\u2019t have to say \u201cwe told you so,\u201d but the new offenses were entirely predictable. By opening revolving jailhouse doors for criminal aliens and defying federal immigration laws, <a href=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/2016\/10\/18\/ice-calls-californias-new-sanctuary-law-dangerous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">sanctuary policies make communities more dangerous<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">The Justice Department is suing California over the state\u2019s sanctuary policies and is reviewing Schaaf\u2019s actions for possible prosecution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Congress must act accordingly. Lawmakers have the authority to withhold federal funding for sanctuary jurisdictions as Congress weighs a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2018\/03\/19\/congress-spending-bill-government-shutdown-471884\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">$1.3 trillion spending bill<\/span><\/a> this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Money going to sanctuaries is the lowest of low-hanging fruit.
