Last week his East Boston apartment exploded. When police responded to the scene they found a badly burned Mikula, chemicals used to make explosives and PVC pipe, which is commonly used to make bomb casings. Officers then obtained a search warrant, searched Mikula\u2019s apartment, and discovered a rifle, two pistols and 100 rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Mikula was subsequently charged with the following criminal offenses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unlawful possession of explosives.<\/li>\n<li>Unlawful possession of an incendiary device.<\/li>\n<li>Willful ignition\/discharge of a destructive or incendiary device.<\/li>\n<li>Unlawful possession of a firearm (handgun).<\/li>\n<li>Unlawful possession of a firearm (rifle).<\/li>\n<li>Unlawful possession of ammunition.<\/li>\n<li>Unlawful possession of a high capacity firearm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He also has an existing criminal record that includes credit card theft, identity theft and firearms charges.<\/p>\n<p>But local officials have already declared that Mikula isn\u2019t a terrorist. According to Boston <a href=\"https:\/\/bigleaguepolitics.com\/boston-immigrant-sets-off-homemade-explosives-charged-with-unlawful-possession-of-high-capacity-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Police Commissioner<\/a> William Evans, Mikula was, \u201cjust someone who has some weapons in there and is playing around with chemicals and, you know, some powder, and it looks like that blew up on him.\u201d Just a foreign national tinkering with explosives. Move along folks, nothing to see here.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s curious, because in the Bay State, law abiding citizens must apply for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/service-details\/gun-ownership-in-massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">firearms license<\/a> if they wish to purchase, possess, carry or transport firearms, gun powder, or ammunition. And Massachusetts police officers tend to treat U.S. citizens suspected of even minor firearms offenses the way the KGB handled enemies of the revolution. But a Czech national in a house full of bombs and guns isn\u2019t a terrorist?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also perplexing because the Boston Police informed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.necn.com\/news\/new-england\/East-Boston-Explosion-Investigation-Police-FBI-487593791.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the FBI and ATF<\/a>, who responded to Mikula\u2019s apartment. Typically, federal officials are called to dwellings filled with bomb-making equipment when local cops are concerned about terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>So, did the higher-ups in Boston government tell the police to back off of the terrorism angle because Mikula is an immigrant and they\u2019re not going to <a href=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/2015\/09\/18\/why-a-prominent-massachusetts-sheriff-opposes-a-state-sanctuary-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cooperate with any ICE<\/a> investigations? That would not <a href=\"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/2017\/05\/10\/flawed-immigration-enforcement-led-to-murder-in-boston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">be surprising<\/a> because the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/news_and_politics\/jurisprudence\/2017\/07\/how_massachusetts_became_a_sanctuary_state.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sanctuary state<\/a> in all but name.<\/p>\n<p>At present, Mikula\u2019s immigration status is unclear. We don\u2019t know whether he\u2019s an illegal alien, a lawful permanent resident or a naturalized citizen.
