{"id":17517,"date":"2018-08-21T16:08:27","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T20:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=17517"},"modified":"2018-12-28T10:08:12","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T15:08:12","slug":"daca-101-online-threats-may-lead-to-deportation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2018\/08\/21\/daca-101-online-threats-may-lead-to-deportation\/","title":{"rendered":"DACA 101: Online threats may lead to deportation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; color: #414141;\">A Texas tweet storm is brewing over the detention of a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) recipient in San Antonio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sergio \u201cMapache\u201d Salazar-Gonzalez, a beneficiary of Barack Obama\u2019s DACA , was detained after participating in a protest outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement sources told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/article\/San-Antonio-student-activist-under-investigation-13136448.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Antonio Express-News<\/a> that Salazar-Gonzalez is the subject of scrutiny by the FBI\u2019s Joint Terrorist Task Force following an intelligence referral by the Texas Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the 18-year-old is being looked at for online postings purported to threaten ICE, as well as instructional videos on how to make weapons.<\/p>\n<p>But those aren\u2019t enough red flags for Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-San Antonio. The congressman who regularly tweets his disdain at the Trump administration\u2019s enforcement of immigration laws is trying to spring the young anti-ICE activist from custody.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While differing with both some of his political views and methods, I fully support his right to dissent without being targeted by the Trump Administration,\u201d Doggett declared.<\/p>\n<p>Disregarding law enforcement\u2019s legitimate security concerns, Doggett complained to ICE about <a href=\"https:\/\/doggett.house.gov\/sites\/doggett.house.gov\/files\/Lloyd%20Doggett%208.7.18%20Sergio%20Salazar%20Gonzalez.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cconfusion\u201d<\/a> over the FBI inquiring into the young activist\u2019s activities. What\u2019s confusing about that?<\/p>\n<p>The real confusion is in the mind of a politician unwilling to wait for answers. That Salazar-Gonzalez had his DACA renewal petition denied and could face deportation proceedings are strong indications that something isn\u2019t right with his status.<\/p>\n<p>We understand it\u2019s election season, and Rep. Doggett is playing to the base of his deep-blue district.
