They departed with a promise to show up at their immigration hearings. Wink, wink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Though derided by President Trump, ICE Catch and Release<\/a> practices are loading up buses at the border, thanks to court rulings<\/a> expanding the rights of migrants who claim \u201ccredible fear\u201d to stay in the country, and the latest federal spending bill<\/a> that limits the number of beds at border detention facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In an effort at crowd control, Greyhound announced last week it would no longer allow U.S. authorities to drop off migrants inside bus stations<\/a>. Now aliens congregate outside until they can scrounge up the necessary fare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meantime, additional funding for \u201cAlternatives to Detention\u201d<\/a> (ATD) effectively gives more migrants a ticket to ride. The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that a third of the people on ATD immediately cut off their ICE-issued ankle monitors. One government contractor said his company routinely retrieves the abandoned tracking devices from Phoenix bus station trashcans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Beleaguered border communities, as well every city and town where illegal aliens disembark, pay a price<\/a> for all this. The expense goes far beyond the cost of a bus ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A Phoenix-based migrant-aid group that monitors local Greyhound stations, is clamoring for city officials to pitch in more \u201cresources\u201d to accommodate the rising tide of illegal border crossers.
