Unaccompanied alien children and single adults led the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite U.S. warnings that illegal entrants <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/total-border-apprehensions-declined-january-daily-averages-ticking-says-cbp-n1134746\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cwill be promptly removed and returned,&#8221;<\/a> a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2020\/01\/14\/migrant-caravan-honduras-border-security-immigrationreform-com\/\" target=\"_blank\">new migrant wave<\/a> appears to be swelling, just as it did in <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/597b194af93c473aa4f041a4462788d8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">early 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s\nworse, migrant caravans winding their way up from El Salvador, Honduras and\nGuatemala are said to be transporting criminal aliens. According to news\nreports, Central American gang members hiding in the caravans have been committing crimes in\nMexico along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Pena\/Authorities-Confirm-Criminals-Traveling-USBound-Caravans?utm_source=E-mail+Updates&amp;utm_campaign=0e42daf027-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_03_09_11_59&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_7dc4c5d977-0e42daf027-44691121\" target=\"_blank\">Salvadoran intelligence group<\/a> has identified some of the criminal migrants as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/criminals-hiding-in-migrant-caravans-official-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">gang members<\/a> wanted for homicide, kidnapping, extortion and terrorism. Mexican authorities branded the convoys a \u201cDevil\u2019s Caravan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increased caravan activity is doubly dangerous, considering the ongoing <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2018\/12\/03\/the-migrant-caravan-and-public-health\/\" target=\"_blank\">public-health implications<\/a>. Concerns have become more acute amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2020\/03\/02\/border-security-diseases-coronavirus-immigrationreform-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">coronavirus outbreaks<\/a> south of the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a sign of things to come, CBP last month <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/department-of-homeland-security\/486433-trump-to-deploy-160-troops-to-border\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">temporarily shut down a border crossing in El Paso<\/a> to prevent migrants from rushing into the Port of Entry (POE).
