{"id":22663,"date":"2020-03-20T13:14:26","date_gmt":"2020-03-20T17:14:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/?p=22663"},"modified":"2020-03-20T13:14:28","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T17:14:28","slug":"border-security-success-trump-immigrationreform-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2020\/03\/20\/border-security-success-trump-immigrationreform-com\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump Administration Border Policies Continue to Demonstrate Effectiveness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The suite of immigration control measures taken by the Trump administration \u2013 including the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2019\/01\/24\/migrant-protection-protocols\" target=\"_blank\">Migrant Protection Protocols<\/a>, the Mexican <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/06\/08\/mexico-to-deploy-6000-troops-to-border-with-guatemala\/\" target=\"_blank\">crackdown<\/a> on its southern border, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/national-media-release\/us-and-mexico-continue-interior-repatriation-initiative\" target=\"_blank\">interior repatriation<\/a> of Mexicans and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2019\/9\/26\/20870768\/trump-agreement-honduras-guatemala-el-salvador-explained\" target=\"_blank\">third safe country agreements<\/a> with several Central American countries \u2013 have continued to drive illegal alien apprehensions down. Sources inside the Border Patrol who spoke on the condition of anonymity report that March 2020 apprehensions for the entire Southwest border are roughly 18,000 to date, compared to nearly 104,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/sw-border-migration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">during March, 2019.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is\nnot just a monthly fluke. Every month in 2020 has been substantially lower than\nlast year, with roughly 221,000 illegal aliens being apprehended thus far this\nfiscal year, compared to 421,000 during the same period in FY 2019.&nbsp; Apprehensions in all sectors of the Southwest\nborder have decreased this year, except for the Laredo, Del Rio and Tucson\nsectors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s not all good news, as apparently Mexican cartels have pivoted from human smuggling to drug smuggling. Hard narcotics, such as heroin, methamphetamines and fentanyl have all increased this year compared to last, according to Border Patrol sources. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/valleycentral.com\/news\/local\/border-patrol-stops-three-drug-smuggling-attempts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Earlier this month<\/a>, Border Patrol agents foiled three separate smuggling attempts near Edinburg, Texas, seizing more than 760 lbs. of marijuana, with a value $610,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nemergence of the coronavirus has given new meaning and importance to border\ncontrol \u2013 not just in the U.S. but across the globe.
