Ironically, the move does little to benefit this group.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply put, halting deportations presents many\nissues for detained migrants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each migrant set for deportation has\nalready had due process and has a final order of removal. This means that the\nU.S.&nbsp;government has decided they cannot remain in the country\nanymore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Going against these orders would not only\nundermine our nation\u2019s judicial system, but would also bring serious repercussions\nfor migrants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detention space and\nresources\u2014ranging from medical supplies to food\u2014 are finite. A reasonable\nargument can be made that if deportations are halted entirely, conditions in\nthese facilities will worsen for migrants due to overcrowding. Detention\nfacilities are built under the assumption that detainees are entering and\nleaving at constant rates. If no one leaves these facilities, the likelihood of\na migrant experiencing worse conditions increases significantly as the demand\nfor resources exceeds the supply. This is far from what open borders advocates\nor anyone wants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Releasing migrants from immigration detention has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/latino\/491613-top-house-oversight-democrats-ask-dhs-to-reduce-immigrant-detainee-population\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">top priority<\/a> for the open borders lobby amid the COVID-19 outbreak. But yet, now that the U.S. wants to release these migrants back to their home countries, they protest. Oh, the hypocrisy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hypocrisy doesn\u2019t end there though. Open borders\nadvocates commonly assert that sending deportees to their country of origin\nincreases the chances of spreading COVID-19 to their own people. Interestingly,\nthese are the same open borders advocates who objected to us sealing our borders in order to prevent\npeople from other countries spreading the virus here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is important to note that before migrants are deported to their country of origin, they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">meticulously screened<\/a> for diseases and are&nbsp;not sent back if they show symptoms of COVID-19.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Halting deportations amid the COVID-19 outbreak is simply bad public policy.
