{"id":24009,"date":"2020-12-29T14:57:43","date_gmt":"2020-12-29T19:57:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/?p=24009"},"modified":"2020-12-29T14:57:45","modified_gmt":"2020-12-29T19:57:45","slug":"ice-end-of-year-deportation-stats-immigrationreform-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2020\/12\/29\/ice-end-of-year-deportation-stats-immigrationreform-com\/","title":{"rendered":"ICE Deported Hundreds of Thousands of Illegal Aliens, Including Gang Members in FY 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On December 23, U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) heralded the efforts of its agents during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/news\/library\/reports\/annual-report\/iceReportFY2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Fiscal Year 2020 with its annual report<\/a>. Despite the struggles of the pandemic, forcing many Americans to shift their work from office to home, these agents remained on the frontlines to apprehend and deport illegal aliens and gang members from our communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the\npast year, ICE\u2019s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) issued 122,223 detainers\nand effectuated 103,603 administrative arrests for immigration status\nviolators. Of those aliens arrested:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>4,067\nwere known or suspected gang members, including 675 from MS-13. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>34\nwere known or suspected terrorists.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>23,932\nat-large arrests were conducted by ICE, which is typically for aliens who were\nwanted by ICE but often were released by sanctuary jurisdictions. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>90\npercent of aliens arrested by ICE had criminal convictions and\/or pending\ncharges. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally,\nERO deported 185,884 unlawfully present aliens from the United States. The\nbreakdown of those removed is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>118,949,\nor 64 percent, had criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>4,276\nwere known or suspected gang members.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>31\nwere known or suspected terrorists.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>14,499\nwere family units.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>4,056\nwere unaccompanied alien children.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Between\nJuly 13 and September 19, 2020, ICE launched Operation Cross Check XI, an\nenforcement initiative targeting criminal aliens who committed offenses involving\na victim. The operation led to the arrests of 2,700 aliens who were either\nremovable based on their criminal history or being unlawfully present in the\nUnited States. These arrested aliens together racked up 5,800 criminal\nconvictions and more than 3,200 pending charges related to those arrests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of\nthe primary offenses that the apprehended aliens were charged with or convicted\nof included over 1,500 assaults, more than 340 sex crimes, nearly 200 weapons\noffenses, over 50 robberies, and 31 homicide offenses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite ICE removing scores of criminal aliens from our streets, the number of arrests and deportations have declined due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/Document\/2019\/eroReportFY2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">FY 2019<\/a>, ICE arrested 143,000 aliens and removed more than 267,000 from the country. In FY 2020, both categories experienced declines of 28 and 30 percent respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President-elect Joe Biden has <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/joebiden.com\/immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\">pledged<\/a> to place a moratorium on all ICE deportations and scale back immigration enforcement during his first 100 days in office. These proposals, coupled with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2020\/12\/17\/biden-approach-hastens-border-surge-immigrationreform-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">rising border surge<\/a>, would likely result in large numbers of illegal immigrants entering the country, and would allow criminal aliens to roam the U.S. with little consequence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the incoming Biden administration is serious about keeping Americans and lawful migrants safe, it should abandon that promise and rather empower immigration enforcement to apprehend as many immigration lawbreakers as possible.
