“Marvelous Pizza, a restaurant in an H Street NE strip mall that opened June 2011, was raided by FBI agents today after its owner was accused of committing numerous types of fraud,” DCist.com reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n “The affidavit states that Hassen and Amri run two pizza shops called New York Pizza Factory in Annandale and Fairfax. Hassen is accused of submitting several fraudulent mortgage loan applications on which he misstated his salary at New York Pizza Company. He allegedly used fraudulent and doctored documents, including Bank of America statements, to deceive mortgage lenders. The affidavit also states Hassen falsely stated his annual earnings on credit card applications. He is also accused of perjuring himself on forms to become a naturalized citizen and lying about his marriage to an American citizen.”<\/p>\n “Despite the missed goals, uncertain timetable and at-times heated rhetoric in the Republican-led House of Representatives, immigration-reform supporters remain cautiously optimistic that a game plan is emerging that will have lawmakers voting on the legislation this year,” USA Today reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Action in the House is on hold until after Congress returns from its August recess on Sept. 9. But the five-week break, during which representatives will hold town hall meetings and otherwise gauge the feelings of their constituents, could go a long way toward determining the legislation’s fate.”<\/p>\n One House member<\/a> vowed to track down amnesty opponents “at the grocery store” to push amnesty. “‘If you have a town hall or if you don\u2019t, we\u2019re going to find you in the grocery store because this is it. We\u2019ve never been this close,’ Representative Xavier Becerra, a California Democrat and one of the chief immigration negotiators in the House of Representatives, said in an interview yesterday.”<\/p>\n According to another USA Today story<\/a>, “GOP leaders said Republicans are looking forward to facing voters on the issue. ‘Our members will be well-prepared to talk with constituents about this important issue,’ said Nate Hodson, a spokesman for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.”<\/p>\n “UCLA senior Michelle Yoon was a high-school valedictorian and the first in her family to attend a four-year college. The daughter of South Koreans, she is also an illegal immigrant. Ms. Yoon is one of the roughly 1.3 million undocumented Asian immigrants in the U.S., according to the Pew Hispanic Center, the second-largest group after Hispanics, at 8.3 million, to be in the country illegally,” the Wall Street Journal<\/a> writes.<\/p>\n “While most Hispanic undocumented immigrants crossed the border illegally, Asians typically arrived by plane on a tourist visa that later expired. Ms. Yoon, 21, came to Los Angeles in 2001 from Argentina, where her parents settled and she was born. Her mother, the family’s main breadwinner, is a store attendant. Ms. Yoon cobbled together private scholarships to enroll at UCLA, where she is active in an undocumented-students group called ASPIRE.”<\/p>\n “One reason why our immigration system is broken today is that President Obama and past administrations have largely ignored the enforcement of our immigration laws. Any real reform must take away the enforcement \u201con\/off\u201d switch from the president and guarantee that our laws will be enforced. That\u2019s why the House Judiciary Committee has approved two commonsense bills to ensure that our laws are enforced and that the system works,” says Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) in a National Review op-ed<\/a>.<\/p>\n “A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging President Obama’s policy of stopping the deportation of some young immigrants in the country illegally.
