Problems Lie Ahead for the San Ysidro Port of Entry

The busiest land crossing in the entire world will now become even busier as a result of a 6,000-plus Central American caravan headed to the region and President Trump’s recent proclamation on asylum laws.

According to reports, the migrant caravan has departed from Mexico City bound for the San Ysidro Port of Entry, a location just south of San Diego, with some reports indicating that members of this caravan have already reached the border crossing.

With thousands of Central American migrants headed to this port of entry, Border Patrol agents may have significant problems in addressing the unprecedented flows of asylum seekers as the crossing is already overrun with backlogs of asylum cases.

Just a few months ago, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan stated that the wait time at this particular crossing was 1,000 people long, while the port can only process 50 to 100 people a day.

This is certainly an area for concern as the port of entry has a previous history of having inadequate detention space, staffing shortages, and not enough resources to deal with increased flows of migrants.

While President Trump’s recent proclamation helps by prohibiting large numbers of migrants from crossing illegally into the country and then requesting asylum, the change in policy will drive up numbers of asylum seekers at ports of entries, especially at San Ysidro.

Border Patrol officials will not only have to assist this new group of individuals who aim to cross legally, but will also have to address the thousands from the Central American caravans, as well as those who remain currently waiting at the port of entry. In total, the port could see its highest amount of traffic in its history during the next month.

In a lame duck session, in which Congress is still controlled by Republicans and has the ability to increase the Department of Homeland Security’s border security funding in early December, there is no better opportunity than now to secure the busiest land crossing in the entire world. Without more resources and funding, San Ysidro could be overwhelmed.

We cannot possibly absorb all of those people. Until every legal U.S. citizen who wants a job has one, they need to be denied entry. Those who choose to find a way to enter without permission need to be rounded up and taken as far south as possible.

Another thing that needs to happen sooner than llater is amend the Constitution to do away with anchor babies. The rule, law, or what ever it is called that makes “anchor” babies citizens needs to be changed. Actually , it dates back to the time when Abraham Lincoln was President and the purpose was to make the former slaves citizens.

I agree. My Grandparents came into the USA ….. LEGALLY thru Elis Island. 1st Grandpa came “Legally“ & got a job. Then sent for his wife & 2 children to come “legally” & HE PAID for them. They did NOT swim over or crash thru the gates & charge into the US & say you HAVE to take care of us.
They were sooooo excited to be US CITIZENS & flew an “American Flag” & “SPOKE ENGLISH”. WHY WOULD ANYONE GO TO ANOTHER COUNTRY & expect them to cater to you & change for you?? Craziness!!

Clearly it’s time to house the “asylum seekers” [read: economic migrants] in tent cities. If things are truly as bad as they claim in their homelands – they’re ostensibly fleeing “persecution” and are in fear for their very lives to hear them tell it! – then Three Hots and a Cot, courtesy of the long-suffering US taxpayer, for however long it takes to get their Sob Stories in front of an “immigration judge” [read: DoJ lawyer wearing a black robe] shouldn’t be No Biggie.

There are only 300 Immigration Judges so the backlog is staggering. Should just close the ports of entry and not accept ANY asylum seekers until the backlog is cleared.

There simply is no room at the inn. We are not under any moral or other obligation to house them until the situation clears,

Mexico offered them all a chance to register, food, shelter, medical care, and opportunity for good jobs; but thousands said no to that. Many of these illegal migrants say they are escaping poverty and want what America offers. Getting their piece of the American pie. They will make up bogus asylum claims regarding gangs and domestic violence and expect to be let in. Then they will be catch and release into our communities. Most will never show up to court. ICE will have to hunt them down in sanctuary cities. They will buy fake I.D. (someone else’s S.S.#) and get jobs. They will pop out anchor babies and get on Medicaid and SNAP. They will then whine and cry about being “torn” from their “families” & communities. People will declare that they are good people even though they are illegally in America. They shouldn’t even be allowed to put one foot into America. Why does America have to follow international law? We are sovereign. We should be able to force illegals to follow a vetting process and file for asylum outside the country.

Why? Dont you make plans before YOU go somewhere as to how you are going to live & eat? I have never gone anywhere especially out of the country & thought “ I ll just go & they will feed & house me! “. Ha ! Ridiculous, get a job & work your way here “LEGALLY”!
