Throughout his election campaign and first few weeks in office, President Biden touted open borders, mass amnesty, and halting construction on the border wall. Since then, the United States has become the destination for several Central American caravans, and thousands of migrants all hoping to cross illegally and gain access to the promises of the Biden administration.
Among his most ridiculous and dangerous executive actions since taking office, President Biden signed a 100-day moratorium on all deportations in an effort to circumvent immigration laws. The order was quickly challenged in court by the state of Texas, claiming that the order violates agreements between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the state. The agreements require the DHS to provide notice of any change to federal immigration policy and allow state officials six months to review and submit comments before any of the proposed changes are implemented. Federal District Court Judge Drew Tipton issued a 14-day temporary restraining order on January 26, blocking President Biden’s order from taking effect, and renewed it for another two weeks. A final ruling has yet to be made on the case.
Even so, the Biden administration has continued to show its contempt for the law and the American people. He ended the Migrant Protection Protocols and reinstated the Obama-era catch and release policy which allows illegal aliens to remain in the country while awaiting immigration proceedings. A former Trump White House senior advisor told Fox & Friends that there is a “152 percent increase in expected illegal border crossings, including 700 children at the border without parents or adult supervision.”
While the country is still trying to recover from a pandemic, the Biden administration is exacerbating a public health crisis at the southern border. Americans and other foreign nationals coming to the U.S. are required to have a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to travel, but illegal aliens are released freely into the interior of the country with few COVID precautions or regard for the communities they are being released into.
These policies only aggravate the crisis at our border by essentially broadcasting a “welcome” message to foreign nationals looking to come to the U.S. illegally. As a result, single adult apprehensions at the southern border jumped by 156 percent from January 2020 to January 2021. Despite members of the Biden team urging asylum seekers to give the administration time to enact their desired changes, the flow of migrants at our border has continued to grow. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is apprehending an average of 3,500 illegal aliens per day along the southern border.
Not only has this administration dismantled and removed almost every tool which enables the U.S. to address illegal immigration while protecting the nation and its interests, but their immigration plan is to reward continuing illegal activity with free healthcare, amnesty, and access to welfare programs, creating a massive pull effect at our border. This administration is playing a dangerous game, one that will make recovery increasingly difficult for our country.
