Rep. Pramila Jayapal at the House Judiciary Committee markup of the Border Security and Enforcement Act of 2023 (H.R. 2640) claimed that without “immigrants” to “pick the food we eat” and “clean our homes,” our economy would suffer labor shortages and it cannot survive without them. Her remarks reveal that, if you scratch the the virtue-signalling surface, the pro-mass-immigration lobby views the foreign-born primarily as a source of cheap menial labor.
